Julie did not want to engage in any romantic relationships after being gang-raped at 13. Then she met David, a conservative man who recently separated from his wife. They have sex, and Julie gets pregnant. They want to get married bu can't because David's wife will not grant him a divorce. Julie goes to the Clergy Counseling Service to seek information about how to get an illegal abortion in the US, but runs out before talking to anyone. David arranges for them to travel to Mexico so Julie can have the abortion.
