Abortion portrayal

Little Fires Everywhere (television)

Little Fires Everywhere

Lexie discovers she's pregnant, and has a surgical abortion. Instead of using her own name at the clinic, she uses her friend's name, Pearl Warren, and when Pearl finds out, it confirms to her that Lexie isn't her real friend. Lexie retreats to Pearl and her mother Mia's apartment to recover from the abortion.

In the final episode of the show, Lexie's mother Elena mistakenly believes it's Pearl who had the abortion, and tries to use this as evidence that Mia is a bad mother. Mia reveals to her that it's Lexie who had an abortion and couldn't go to her own mother for comfort. When Lexie discloses the abortion to Elena in the episode's climax, pleading that she's not perfect, Elena screams at her daughter and slams the door in her face.
