ANSIRH study shows that few women visit pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) because they are considering abortion

Twenty-nine states in the United States allow for taxpayer funding to fund pregnancy resource centers (PRCs), sometimes referred to as crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs). Many abortion rights advocates and opponents believe PRCs influence women’s decisions about abortion and thus invest resources in either supporting or seeking to eliminate PRCs.

In our study, published in the journal Contraception and titled, “What women seek from a pregnancy resource center,” we found that only 2% of the women visiting the PRC sought abortion counseling. In fact, most clients came for parenting resources such as diapers and baby clothes. This points to a substantial need for material support for caregivers of young children. PRCs may be, at least in part, filling that need.
