Rick has sex with Karen once, and after discovering that she's pregnant, he deserts her. Their friend Gary steps up and helps pay for the abortion by selling many of his own things and borrowing money from his boss. He accompanies her to the abortion, and comforts her afterwards. He confesses his love for her, but much to Gary's disappointment, she decides to reunite with her ex-boyfriend, Rick.
