Notes:

In a flashback to 1926, Elizabeth ("The Countess") visits Dr. Charles Montgomery at the "murder house" to have an illegal abortion. Because Elizabeth is a vampire, and despite her early gestation, the abortion doesn't work and the baby is delivered full term. The baby immediately kills the assisting nurse and is embraced by his mother.
