A traffic accident brings together a critically ill mathematician, a grieving mother, and a born-again ex-con. Mary has kept her past abortion a secret from her husband. She shares the reason for the abortion (that they were separated) when a doctor tells them that they will having trouble conceiving because of physical damage from the abortion.
