Digital Specialist

The Digital Strategist will work with the Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) Director of Strategic Communications to develop a plan for creating, organizing and optimizing social and digital content to effectively share ANSIRH’s research with a variety of audiences, in alignment with UCSF digital and editorial policies and UCSF brand identity standards. The Strategist is a position for a talented, driven digital professional who can work well with faculty and staff, write excellent digital content, and is experienced in the fields of Reproductive Health/Rights/Justice.

We are seeking someone who can add their digital expertise to developing the overall communications strategy for ANSIRH, and will manage the day-to-day social and digital media channels, including the website, social media platforms, and email.

The Digital Strategist will also liaise with UCSF University Relations, Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG) division of the Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Ob/Gyn & RS) Department, and the Bixby Center on digital content as appropriate..

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information sciences, digital communications and/or equivalent experience/training
  • At least three years of related experience, including at least two years in digital communications, preferably for a health, research, or advocacy organization
  • Knowledge of all aspects of digital communications and how they interact for increased audience engagement, including website, social media, and email channels. Strong knowledge of Twitter and Facebook platforms, including how to run campaigns for organic and paid growth
  • Understanding of systems and applications for web design, email, social media, and understanding of best practices and analytics for these properties, to effectively manage assets and direct consultants and vendors as needed on projects, and act on their recommendations
  • Experience with an email or content management system such as Mailchimp, Salsa, Action Network, or similar
  • Solid skills to create, develop, and implement long and short term digital communications plans, including calendars and campaigns
  • Experience translating academic or technical research findings into accessible, engaging content
  • Experience in project management, especially in managing external consultants and vendors such as web designers and graphic designers to produce high quality work on time and on budget​​
  • Solid skills and experience collaborating with junior and senior program members (staff and faculty) to write compelling digital content, and in liaising with other departments as appropriate
  • Experience managing day-to-day social and digital media properties including website, social media and email for health, research, or advocacy organization
  • Experience managing multiple job responsibilities, with the ability to prioritize and pivot as needed while advancing longer-term projects
  • Possess an excellent eye for detail and ability to juggle multiple job responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge and proficiency in Drupal, CSS, Photoshop, HTML
  • Thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of design and user experience, including skill to design in a professional, clear and compelling way
  • Experience in reproductive health, reproductive rights, or reproductive justice field(s)
  • Experience with design/development of web sites

The annual salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000.


Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) is a collaborative research group at UCSF and a program of the Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health, a multi-disciplinary academic center focused on the most pressing need for adolescent sexual health, family planning, abortion policy, maternal health and sexually transmitted infections. The Bixby Center is a key research entity of the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) Division of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Ob/Gyn & RS) at UCSF.
