Since 2007, the Health Workforce Pilot Project (HWPP) #171 has collected data from over 16,000 patients and trained over 40 nurse practitioners (NPs), certified nurse-midwives (CNMs), and physician assistants (PAs) to competency in aspiration abortion care. As of September 2011, the study was statistically complete and ready for analysis. While we continue to collect additional data, the first article has been published.
In an effort to make the results of the HWPP #171 available, we are posting the study’s quarterly updates:
We have also made the results of this pilot project available to the California legislature, health professional organizations, and state regulating bodies, in order to promote evidenced-based legal and regulatory decision-making in regards to the provisions of abortion care by NPs, CNMs and PAs.
In addition, in an effort to expand the pool of abortion providers to include all clinicians with appropriate education, training and skill, we have shared the results with reproductive health advocates nationwide.
